Witcher 3 Remastered Stores, Consoles, and the Free Upgrade

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launches September 29, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Existing owners on GOG, Steam, Epic, PlayStation 5, and Xbox receive it as a free upgrade. Switch 1 owners claim a Switch 2 native version. Battle.net is a debut storefront, not a free-upgrade library you already own. This page is the store matrix. For the click-by-click claim flow, use How to Upgrade. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine were granted to base-game owners at no extra cost on August 25, 2026, including Xbox One owners of the base game. Digital copies landed in libraries automatically; disc owners claim from the store. That grant is already in motion. The remaster client is the September 29 step. The game remains single-player.

PC stores: GOG, Steam, Epic, Battle.net

GOG is CDPR’s home store. If your licence lives here, the Remastered upgrade should appear on the same product page. GOG still lets you revert to a classic branch if the new spec is too high; that fallback is the reason a 2015 rig is not bricked. Classic branch will not be the Songs of the Past branch.

Steam follows the same free-upgrade logic and also offers a classic-branch revert. If hardware fails the Windows 11 / SSD / DX12 bar, roll back there rather than refund-hunting a game you already own.

Epic Games Store is in the free-upgrade list. Epic does not have Steam-style betas. If you cannot run Remastered on Epic, you do not have a one-click classic branch the way Steam and GOG do. That is the store to be most careful about before September 29.

Battle.net is new. CDPR and Blizzard are putting Remastered and Songs of the Past on Battle.net for the first time. A Battle.net purchase of Songs of the Past unlocks a Geralt-inspired Diablo IV skin, with more detail promised around BlizzCon. A Battle.net install is not a Steam save. If you already own the game on GOG or Steam, you do not need Battle.net for the remaster itself unless you want that specific store or the Diablo bonus in 2027.

PC is native DirectX 12 only. The Tools Hub exists because that sentence strands a lot of perfectly good 2018 towers. Read it before you download 70 GB onto a dying HDD.

Songs of the Past gamescom showcase supercut

PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro

PS5 owners of The Witcher 3 receive the Remastered upgrade at no extra cost. PS5 Pro support is on the feature list: expect a Pro-specific mode in the same family as other CDPR Pro patches, not a separate SKU. Gamescom stream remarks from the community and developers talked about ray tracing at 60 FPS on Pro; that is a stream report, not a numbered benchmark this wiki invented. Disc versus digital follows the same Hearts of Stone / Blood and Wine pattern already used on August 25: digital in the library, disc via store claim. Saves stay in the PlayStation ecosystem. They do not walk to Steam.

Xbox Series and Xbox Play Anywhere

Xbox Series X|S owners get the free upgrade. Xbox Play Anywhere is the extra sentence that changes how you buy: seamless play across Series X|S, PC (Xbox / Microsoft store lane), and Xbox-supported handhelds, including the Ally family that also gets FSR 4 callouts. If you want one save on the couch and on a handheld, this is the lane. It is not a Steam-to-Xbox bridge. Cross-platform mods via mod.io ship with Remastered (delayed from 2025) and are listed for Xbox Series; treat the first week as a store-policy week, not as a Nexus mirror. Nexus remains PC. Not every PC mod will be on console.

Xbox One owners of the base game received the two older expansions on August 25. Remastered itself is a Series / current-gen client, not a reason to stay on Xbox One hardware.

Nintendo Switch 2

Switch 2 is a Remastered platform. Switch 1 owners claim the native Switch 2 version. The named Switch 2 exclusive is Motion Patterns: whistle for Roach and control her (REDstreams Day 3 comments from developers). Do not invent a handheld-only Sign or a unique quest on top of that. Press notes on the remaster console rollout include Switch 2 in the mod.io path; Nexus still stays PC, and not every PC mod will be on the handheld. Songs of the Past is also listed for Switch 2 and not for Switch 1. If your only licence is a Switch 1 cartridge, plan the claim path in How to Upgrade before September 29 so you are not fighting eShop queues on launch morning.

Which store should you pick?

If you already own the game, stay where the licence is. Free upgrade beats a second purchase. If you do not own it yet:

• GOG or Steam for PC players who want a classic-branch safety net.
• Xbox Play Anywhere if you care about Series-plus-PC-plus-handheld saves.
• PlayStation 5 if that is the living-room box and you want PS5 Pro support.
• Switch 2 if handheld is the whole point.
• Battle.net if the Diablo IV skin in 2027 is actually worth a separate library to you.

Then confirm the PC spec, update GPU drivers the week of launch, and let the Getting Started page handle White Orchard. Store choice is a one-time decision. Combat is not. Do not split licences across three launchers “just in case.” The only save that is designed to hop is Xbox Play Anywhere. Everything else is an island. Pick the island that already has your hours on it.
