Witcher 3 Remastered Characters & Cast

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launches September 29, 2026 as a free upgrade for current owners, and it remains a single-player open-world RPG. You hunt, ride, and negotiate almost entirely as Geralt of Rivia. Ciri is playable in specific main-quest sequences that already exist in the original campaign. Remastered does not add a Ciri-only story, a second protagonist campaign, or extra field heroes.

Use it when you need to know who you control, who only appears in cutscenes and quests, and which systems — combat, Signs, the skill tree, transmog — change how those people feel after the upgrade. Playable roles, not a party sim

Witcher 3 is a single-player story. You do not swap a roster of field units the way a tactics game does. Geralt is the professional witcher whose swords, Signs, bombs, oils, and alchemy define almost every contract. Ciri’s chapters are authored story beats: blink movement, raw magic, and scripted confrontations rather than potion management. Everyone else — Yennefer, Triss, Vesemir, Dandelion, Lambert, Eskel, Roche, Dijkstra, the Wild Hunt, Toussaint’s court — is a quest-giver, companion, rival, or antagonist.

That distinction matters for search intent. If you want a build, you want Geralt. If you want Elder Blood set pieces, you want Ciri. If you want romance flags or political endings, you still play Geralt while those companions react. The Walkthrough tracks quest order; this hub tracks who those quests are about.

Geralt of Rivia

Geralt is the White Wolf: a Kaer Morhen-trained monster hunter whose steel sword is for humans and his silver sword is for beasts. The Remastered combat pass is built around him — tighter targeting, more fluid gap-closing, new finishers (including an Aard-based finisher shown in the announcement trailer), an adaptive camera, and enhanced monster behavior. Signs receive new visual effects. Roach handling is revamped, which changes how you cross Velen, Novigrad’s outskirts, Skellige, and Toussaint.

The skill tree revamp is the biggest progression change. Existing skills are reworked, new perks appear, and the trees themselves are redesigned so older “fast attack only” or “pure Alchemy” muscle memory needs a second look. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine still star Geralt. Those expansions were granted at no extra cost on August 25, 2026 to base-game owners. Songs of the Past, due in 2027, is another Geralt chapter — co-developed with Fool’s Theory — not a Ciri campaign. See Songs of the Past.

Ciri

Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon is the Child of the Elder Blood, hunted by the Wild Hunt and raised in all but name by Geralt and Yennefer. In this game you play her during named “Ciri’s Story” sequences (among them The King of the Wolves, Breakneck Speed, Out of the Shadows, and Fleeing the Bog) and during late main-quest confrontations such as the Battle of Kaer Morhen, Bald Mountain against Imlerith, and the closing White Frost beats.

She does not drink witcher potions or cast Geralt’s five Signs. Her kit is blink, sword work, and burst magic. Remastered upgrades how those scenes look and how animation reads; it does not turn her into an open-world protagonist. That role belongs to The Witcher 4, which CD PROJEKT RED is targeting for 2028. Companions, courts, and hunters

You never control Yennefer of Vengerberg or Triss Merigold, but their quests set romance flags, Nilfgaardian politics, and how Ciri judges you at the ending. Vesemir is the father figure at Kaer Morhen. Dandelion opens Novigrad’s criminal and artistic underbelly, and he is the reason Songs of the Past heads to Letten. Vernon Roche and Sigismund Dijkstra pull Geralt into Temerian and Redanian plots. The Wild Hunt — Eredin, Imlerith, Caranthir — hunt Ciri across worlds.

Hearts of Stone adds Olgierd von Everec and Gaunter O’Dimm. Blood and Wine adds Duchess Anna Henrietta, Regis, Dettlaff, and Beauclair’s higher-vampire court. Those names belong in a character hub because their quests change how you spend Geralt’s ability points and which swords you keep. They are not extra playable heroes.

How Remastered changes faces and fights

CD PROJEKT RED, working with Yigsoft, is shipping more than a lighting pack. Character presentation benefits from path tracing on PC, ray-traced hair, updated textures, a new shading model, subsurface scattering, and refined animations. Sign visual effects are new. Monster behavior is enhanced, so griffin, drowner, and higher-vampire contracts play differently even when the dialogue is familiar.

Transmogrification lets you keep a favorite armor silhouette while wearing better stats — useful if you want Geralt to look like a Kaer Morhen witcher while using Toussaint-tier numbers. Cross-platform mod support and an expanded photo mode also change how players show off the cast, but they do not add new protagonists. How this hub stays current

Character pages here track playable roles and the Remastered systems that touch them — not every book genealogy. When Songs of the Past details lock in for 2027, Geralt’s page will gain expansion-specific notes; Ciri’s page will stay focused on Wild Hunt sequences and the 2028 sequel, without inventing a Remastered Ciri campaign that does not exist.
