Witcher 3 Remastered PC System Requirements
Windows 11, an SSD, and DirectX 12 only — with a classic-branch revert on Steam and GOG if the new spec is honest.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launches September 29, 2026 with the sharpest PC spec in the game’s life. CD PROJEKT RED is not asking for a current-gen flagship to enter White Orchard, but it is done supporting Windows 10, mechanical hard disks, and DirectX 11. If your tower misses the table below, you still have a path: Steam and GOG can revert to a classic branch. That branch is the 2015–2022 game, not the remaster, and it is not the road into Songs of the Past. Read this page once, then use Graphics Settings for the toggles that actually eat GPU time. Store questions belong on Platforms and How to Upgrade. The rest of the toolset sits on the Tools Hub.
This page does not publish invented FPS numbers. A GTX 1660 at minimum is a support line, not a 1440p promise. Path tracing is a high-end, PC-focused extra with no separate official SKU line yet.
Minimum and recommended
| Spec | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | 64-bit Windows 11 | 64-bit Windows 11 |
| CPU | Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600 | Intel Core i7-8700K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600X |
| RAM | 12 GB | 16 GB |
| GPU | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 6 GB / AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8 GB / Intel Arc A580 | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super / AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT / Intel Arc B580 |
| Storage | 70 GB SSD | 70 GB SSD |
| API | DirectX 12 only | DirectX 12 only |
Both columns require an SSD. Both columns require Windows 11. There is no supported HDD row. There is no supported Windows 10 row. There is no DirectX 11 fallback inside the Remastered client.
CDPR’s earlier support note is still the rationale: Microsoft ended Windows 10 support, GPU vendors stopped treating that OS as a gaming target, and the studio will only test CPUs and GPUs that still have Windows 11 gaming drivers. HDDs cannot stream the new assets. DX12 is the only backend because native DirectX 12 and rendering parallelization are how Remastered actually draws a frame.
What was dropped, and why it matters
Windows 10. If you have been postponing the OS upgrade, September 29 is the deadline for this game. A Windows 10 box can still launch the classic branch on Steam or GOG. It will not be a supported Remastered machine.
HDD. Seventy gigabytes on a mechanical drive is not a “slow but fine” install anymore. Asset streaming for foliage, NPCs, and the new lighting stack assumes solid-state random access. Move the library to an SSD. If you only have a small SSD, this 70 GB (base plus Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine) is the thing that deserves it. Owners gained those expansions at no extra cost on August 25, 2026; they are in the installer size, not a later surprise.
DirectX 11. The 2015 renderer is gone from Remastered. Mods, overlays, or capture tools that still assume DX11 will need DX12-aware updates. That is a you-problem for launch week, not a CDPR spec-table problem.
Epic’s missing revert. Steam and GOG document a classic-branch fallback. Epic Games Store does not offer the same beta-style rollback. If Epic is your only licence and your hardware misses the table, you are looking at a hardware or OS upgrade, not a checkbox in a properties menu. Platforms spells out that store difference so you do not discover it during the title crawl.
Path tracing is not the minimum
The minimum GPU line is a 2019-era card. Path tracing plus ray reconstruction is not that line. Treat path tracing as optional, expensive, and PC-only. Pair it with DLSS 4.5, FSR 4, or XeSS 2.0. Suggested presets live on Graphics Settings. Do not buy a new GPU for path tracing on a rumor that the minimum spec secretly includes it. It does not.
Press-reported Ultra / RT 4K tier (not a CDPR table)
On 1 September 2026, Frandroid published a third PC tier aimed at Ultra / ray-traced 4K. That write-up is press, not a Battle.net or CDPR support table. Official minimum and recommended rows above stay the ones CDPR posted. Frame generation, per Notebookcheck, officially needs an RTX 40-series card or newer; a 2060 Super that meets recommended can still use DLSS reconstruction without that toggle.
| Spec | Press-reported Ultra / RT 4K (Frandroid, 1 Sep 2026) |
|---|---|
| CPU | Intel Core i7-9700K / AMD Ryzen 7 3700X |
| RAM | 16 GB or more |
| GPU | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 / AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, with DLSS or FSR |
| Storage | 70 GB NVMe recommended |
NVMe is a press preference on top of CDPR’s 70 GB SSD line. A SATA SSD still meets the official table; NVMe is the 4K streaming suggestion in that article, not a new CDPR gate. Classic-branch fallback on Steam and GOG is still true if even the minimum row is honest about your tower.
Console players can leave this page. PS5 Pro, Xbox Play Anywhere, and Switch 2 have their own SKUs on Platforms. Handhelds in the Xbox lane should still respect the PC table if they are running the PC build; FSR 4 is named, a desktop path-tracing profile is not a handheld preset.
Classic branch, Songs of the Past, and a sane plan
Reverting to classic keeps you in the 2015–2022 client. You keep your save. You do not keep Remastered combat, transmog, the new tree, or the lighting stack. You should not expect Songs of the Past in 2027 to install on that branch. The expansion is being built on the Remastered client. A revert is a bridge for the month you buy an SSD, not a forever home.
If you are close to the minimum line, do the cheap things first: Windows 11, SSD, current GPU drivers, 12 GB (better 16 GB) of RAM. Then launch on a conservative preset. If the OS or storage cannot move before September 29, set the classic branch now so launch night is a known client rather than an error dialogue. New players who pass the table should go to Getting Started instead of staying here to stare at a 1660. The spec sheet has done its job when you close it. The Path does not start in a requirements table; it starts when the installer finishes and White Orchard actually loads from an SSD.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about the Remastered upgrade, builds, and story.
What is the minimum GPU for Witcher 3 Remastered?
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 6 GB, AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8 GB, or Intel Arc A580, with 12 GB of RAM, a 70 GB SSD, 64-bit Windows 11, and DirectX 12. That is a support line, not a promised frame rate.
What is recommended?
Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, 16 GB of RAM, and an RTX 2060 Super, RX 6600 XT, or Arc B580, still on Windows 11 with a 70 GB SSD and DX12.
Can I stay on Windows 10 or an HDD?
Not for the supported Remastered client. CDPR dropped Windows 10 testing and HDD support. Steam and GOG can revert to a classic branch if you need time to upgrade.
Does Epic have a classic fallback?
Not the way Steam and GOG do. If Epic is your only licence and you miss the spec, plan an OS or hardware change rather than a properties-menu rollback.
Will the classic branch run Songs of the Past?
Do not count on it. The 2027 expansion is being built on the Remastered client. A revert is a bridge, not the long-term path.
Is path tracing in the minimum spec?
No. Path tracing is a high-end PC extra. Use the graphics-settings page and an upscaler. Official CDPR rows stay minimum and recommended. A third Ultra / RT 4K line published by Frandroid on 1 September 2026 is press-reported, not a CDPR Battle.net table. Frame generation officially needs RTX 40-series or newer (Notebookcheck).
